It's August Already!?

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start! Time is flying by and the heat index definitely proves August is here! Billy and I had a wonderful weekend, even though he had to work part of it. Friday we went to the doctor and heard our sweet baby's heartbeat again. That n-e-v-e-r gets old! We enjoyed our downtime and even planted a new tree in the yard. I love-love white crape myrtle trees & since they were on sale at Lowe's (~~even~~ especially at Lowe's I can't pass up a sale) we picked one up to add to our front flower bed. I cannot wait to see it grow and bloom, they are gorgeous trees.

My new excuse...

Hello blog world. I have already admitted to being the worst blogger ever so I cannot use that excuse anymore for my lack of post. I can however use the excuse that I've been extremely tired and the lack of energy after my work day leaves no creative juices for blogging. My new excuse, I'm pregnant! Yep, there is a baby Bird nesting away right now that we cannot wait to meet the first of the year. So, until I'm up to speed again I'll just have to be okay with the random post here and there.

I do hope to have some new items for Christmas this year. I'm thinking ahead since this Christmas I don't think I'll be 100% in the swing of working with a baby around the corner. :) Keep an eye out and I hope to have some fun Trendy Ink products to share in the coming months.

Annnnnd because a post is more fun with pictures. Here's my first baby, Oliver, watching his 'daddy' cut the grass. I love that boy! :)

A quick update {I'm still here}

I know, I am totally the worst blogger. To be completely honest I've been in a rut and just have not wanted to blog or share anything. Billy and I have stayed so busy lately. We had a really nice spring break in March and took a trip to Tampa, St. Pete and Orlando. As always, we had the absolute best time! Lately, Trendy Ink Designs has continued to be busy. I'm producing quite a bit of stamps and embossers. I've also been designing a lot of baby invites. I need to get those added to my website. Eventually...

My sister-in-law sent me this picture of my nephew, Carlo wearing my brothers uniform. I just had to share. He is the cutest 7 year old boy I know. I cannot wait until they make their move back home to the good ole' USA so I can spoil him rotten.

Birthday {recap}

What they don't tell you as a kid is that sometimes you have to work on your Birthday when you grow up. This is what the 30-somethings chapter holds. Ugh! So, I took a half day just in spite of the fact that I was NOT going to work the entire day. :) However, this Birthday was special because of my amazing husband. Billy is always sure to go out of his way to make my day spectacular. We spent the morning together and then off to work we went. When Friday rolled around our plan was to celebrate (more)...which means shopping, of course! I was told I could buy anything I wanted that day. Dangerous, right? Here is one of my new favorite things we picked up while shopping...

A New Year {already!?}

I printed out something at work today and noticed on the bottom of the paper "1/4/2011" and that's when it truly hit me, it's 2011! It has taken me four days (I may be a little slow) for this to sink in. I cannot get over how fast time is moving. I still haven't even blogged about our Christmas and what a wonderful Christmas it was! Tomorrow in celebration of my Birthday, I will have a SALE on one of my hot Trendy Ink Design products. Celebrating Two Years

I admit I’m a little behind on my blogging but better late than never, right? I truly love this time of year but sure do wish it would sloooow down. It seems like yesterday I was in NYC and Christmas was still weeks away. I miss NYC already! I’m technically “half yankee” so I have the city crave in my blood stream. Thankfully, I married a handsome southern gentleman, a good ole’ Georgia boy, who despite his southern roots has a big love for the city as well. We celebrated our 2nd anniversary touring New York City with friends. The weather was (very) cold, the company was great and the days full of activities were a blast.

To avoid boring you, I will only post a "few" pictures.

It's been a whirlwind!

It's been a whirlwind of a week! Shortly after we enjoyed Thanksgiving and had a 17 hour day of black Friday shopping things went south. My Dad ended up in the hospital AND my brother is in Italy with mono and is in need of surgery but they cannot operate until he gets well. I'm thankful it is nothing too serious but it sure has been a wild weekend. The saying, "when it rains, it pours" comes to mind.

In a matter of hours, Billy & I begin our vacation and I have not even packed one thing. This is maddening to the organization/planner in me! So, with everything going on I have no time to do all the posts I had planned. I want to leave you with our photo session from a couple weeks ago. My friend, Kaci, took these for us and we had the best time hanging out together in the park. I'm Thankful...

Thankful for having a relationship with my heavenly father, Jesus.

Thankful for Billy because he’s the kindest, funniest, most loving, gentle spirit I know and I’m thankful he chose to spend his life with me.

Thankful for my Pop because he is a wonderful Dad, hardest worker and so funny – always a joy to be around.

Thankful for my Mom because she’s the heartbeat of our family. She works countless hours to make each holiday and event special and is so generous. The most generous person I know. Thankful she is so wise and a good listener when I need advice.

Thankful for my brother, Jordan. I’m thankful that God made him so unique in spirit. I’m glad he is my brother and I didn’t have to share him growing up {Selfish but true!}Thankful for his brotherly love and pep talks when needed.

Thankful for my sister, Oana. I’m so thankful God gave her to our family and picked her to love my brother. She’s such a free spirit, fun loving and caring soul. I’m thankful we have Carlo and thankful he was such a light in her day when Jordan was away at war.

Thankful for my in-laws, Mom and Dad Bird. I’m thankful for their love and support. Thankful they raised such a wonderful son. Thankful they instilled the importance of loving God in their children. I see Christ in Billy today because of their teachings years ago.

Thankful for all my brother & sister-in-laws. There are a lot of us Birds and I’m thankful to God for giving me such a big family to love.

Thankful for my extended family. I’m a better woman today for knowing my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. I love each and everyone for the unique qualities they posses.

Thankful for my Oliver boy – what a fun addition to our home. Oliver is a great warm-up for future little Birds. Thankful he is a fast learner and always has a happy face when I walk in the door from work.

Thankful for my health, praise God for giving me a clean bill of health. I don’t take my movement, eye-sight, hearing, sense of smell or anything at all for granted.

Thankful for my house. I’m thankful for a warm place to sleep, a place with Billy that we can call home.

Thankful for Jordan coming home from war safely (twice). I do not take that blessing for granted and praise God for it. I’m thankful for his service in the Army and very proud of his purple heart. His sacrifice at war was big however, small in the scheme of things; he was able to walk home to his wife.

Thankful for friends who keep me laughing. Laughter truly is the medicine of the soul.

And I have sooo much more to be thankful for, too many to name. I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and don’t forget to Praise the Lord for the blessings bestowed upon you and yours!

Good Music {with a side of chicken & waffles}

Have you ever been to a concert and wanted more, just didn’t want it to end? Billy & I saw Gary Allan last week in Atlanta and couldn’t get enough. We are big Gary Allan fans and were impressed with his stage presence. He did not need the flashy lights, rotating stage and a truck hanging from the ceiling – his music was that good. He is just so talented! I hope he comes to Jacksonville so we can see him again soon.

We really enjoyed our date in the city and were sure to take the opportunity to try Gladys Knights Chicken & Waffles restaurant. We saw it on the Food network a few months ago and thought it was worth a try. Yep, good ole’ southern fried chicken served with a waffle called “the midnight train”. I won’t say it was my favorite meal (& certainly not the healthiest) but if you’re ever downtown ATL, try it. It’s an experience.

Baby Garb & Western Wear

What a busy weekend. I really enjoy keeping busy when there is a big event or trip to look forward too. Billy and I have a lot of exciting things around the bend so I welcome this busy month. This past weekend was a lot of fun. Saturday morning I joined a lot of great girls at Lyndsay’s baby shower. It was so fun to see her (one the most adorable pregnant girls ever) and see all the goodies for baby A. I can’t wait to meet him and know he’ll be one cool baby if he’s even half as cool as his parents. :)

Another family friend invited us to their country club fall western wear party. When I first received the invitation I was really excited to attend but became overwhelmingly nervous about the attire. I definitely don’t have a closet full of plaid shirts and cowgirl garb. Luckily, last fall season I had a splurge spend on a pair of cute Justin cowgirl boots – vintage wash of course. So, I ran into Old Navy and purchased a white top and sported my jean jacket and accessorized appropriately. It was so much fun watching (yes, watching as I am definitely the least coordinated line dancer, ever) everyone two-step. My mom impressed me with her moves while Pops and I enjoyed watching and singing along to country’s greatest hits. Unfortunately for me, my most handsome husband had to work that night but it was great quality time with the parents and friends. We laughed, partook in good southern BBQ and had a blast! I hope this becomes an annual event because I’ll be looking for another invitation come next Fall (hint, hint Beasley’s). :-)

Lesson Learned {Halloween Recap}

Billy, Oliver and I had the best time with our trick-or-treaters this past weekend. The kids were just too cute in their costumes. My favorite was a baby dressed in his Mickey Mouse costume. What a doll! We actually ran out of candy and had to hide just past 8:00! Last year we ran out of candy too - I've finally learned my lesson. MUST BUY MORE CANDY. :) I thought 3 large bags of candy was plenty, guess not.

We ended up not "torturing" Oliver as much as I had hoped. Oliver sported his Army tee given to him from his Aunt Oana. He "said" he wanted to be Uncle Jordan for Halloween, ha! He had lots of fun hanging out barking at all the trick-or-treaters. He wanted to come out and play soo badly. Can you imagine the looks mommies would have given me if my baby was jumping on theirs!? Not good.

I'm in Christmas preparation full swing. Already have gifts purchased and keeping my eye out for my hot items to go on sale - maybe black Friday will have a few goodies for us this year? I enjoy the hunt. Anyway, don't forget about the Christmas tags. I filled lots of orders last night and have ordered many stamps. Torture the pup or not...that is the real question

There is a bit of debate on our pups Halloween costume. To dress Oliver up, or not is the question. We cannot agree. I've never dressed up a dog or any animal before so I’m definitely a rookie. We have been to Target, Wal-mart, Petco; you name it looking at costumes. At some point I thought this would be a fun idea (obviously, not for Oliver) to have him dressed up greeting the kiddos when we hand out candy. Wouldn't he be adorable as a pumpkin or bumble bee!? Here are a few I really like. Billy says, there is no way our boy is going to wear a Bee costume...

Meanwhile, the Halloween candy in a big ol' basket by the door is dwindling. I have NO idea who is eating all the kiddos’ candy!? (Uhmm, Mr. Bird)

In other news, the weeks continue to fly by! I cannot believe that next week is November. I realized today that I don't have time to slow down until next year! I appreciate keeping busy though as I enjoy counting down to something fun during the busy times.

In a matter of weeks Billy and I will again be in NYC but this time with friends. I cannot wait! NYC is beautiful at Christmas time and I'm really looking forward to experiencing it with Billy. I have so many wonderful memories with family in the city on holidays and am looking forward to sharing this with my wonderful hubby and making new memories.

Invitations set the stage for an upcoming event. Once you receive an invitation in the mail you are given a subconscious idea of what to expect. Right? Or is it just me? :)

I love helping to set the tone for an event through design. A few weeks ago, I designed these invites for a friend. Aren't they adorable!?

Yesterday morning Billy and I headed to Atlanta. Billy decided the Braves playoff game was a must see...in person. So, since his birthday is TODAY (Happy Birthday my love) we couldn't pass up the opportunity to head north. What the birthday boy wants, he gets!

Once we dropped Oliver off at my parents (thank you, mom!!) we headed north. I then realized it was 10.10.10 and thought it would be fun to document the moment at 10:10 AM...as we were driving. :)

We had a great time with friends and unfortunately the Braves lost. However, Billy said it was worth the drive and we were glad to have so much time together. :)

Gearing up

Hello, my name is Brooke and I have a jacket obsession. I'm of the mindset that you can never have too many jackets. Attending college in Virginia aided to this theory. Now, living in FL I regretfully do not get to wear them as often as I would hope. However, In preparation for the cooler weather AND my upcoming NYC trip I thought it would be appropriate to purchase a new jacket.

So, I went online for the hunt. I spotted this jacket...the bold buttons and ribbed knit collar and cuffs had me at first glance! Since my jacket wardrobe needed a new updated member...I ordered it. The jacket arrived Friday afternoon. Hello, Double Breasted Wool Bomber! I think it's a great addition and can't wait to wear it with my new black boots.

Ahhhh, I'm at home again!

That is what I felt like screaming from the roof tops this week. Billy and I decided it was way pass due to car shop. We I wanted/needed to get rid of the Honda I was driving.

Let me rewind…

Before I dated my sweet and amazing husband, I dated a bozo. I’m allowed to be frank on here, right?! Looking back I’m not quite sure where my head was but I was definitely dating a guy that was wrong for me in every way. In that relationship he had convinced me that I should get rid of my beautiful white BMW because he wanted to get married and was thinking ahead about finances. To make a really long and sour story short, I traded in my pretty little BMW for a nice sensible Honda Accord. A week later, that “soon to be proposal” and future with him were gone – he broke up with me. I was stuck driving a Honda. (Insert lesson learned here: Ladies, I don’t care how great that guy is, don’t do anything stupid like I did until after you get married).

I was mad – really mad. Here I was with this “family sedan” and there was no future of a family. However, the Honda was a very good car and gave me four years of safe travels. The best part, I didn’t end up with that guy…just the car. It could’ve been worse! :)

Fast forward to today, four years later (to the week) and I still was a little bitter towards the Honda. It was not the cars fault but the memory every now and then that would remind me of why I was driving that car. I would never have chosen a Honda Accord on my own and that memory taunted me in various moments throughout the past four years. Here I was married to the perfect man God blessed me with and I had this lingering connection to the past I couldn’t seem to cut.

Until…

The day finally came this week and I am back in a BMW. It’s always been my favorite car and anyone who knows me realizes that since I’ve owned 3. I’m journaling my story so I can wipe my hands clean and finally leave that memory in the past. I know this story may sound silly but if you’ve been in a similar situation, you get it. So, here’s to old reminders going away AND to a wonderful husband who gets me…puts up with me…loves me with his whole heart…and takes me to pick out that car I’ve missed. I may love my new BMW but I really love Mr. Bird sooo much more.

Remembering My Grandpa

A loving soul, Christ-follower, hard worker, gentle spirit and wisdom way beyond his 89 years … this was my Grandpa Kriner. A week ago today at this moment I had the sweetest experience in witnessing my Grandpa, surrounded by family, leave us to meet Jesus. The experience was sad, surreal, and happy he was free of pain yet full of tears. What a pleasure and blessing it was to call him my Grandpa. The past week has been hard yet promising because I know I will get to see my Grandpa again in Heaven. Oh, what hope we have in Christ! As he took his last breath with family surrounding him, loving on him, I couldn’t help but think that in that moment God was welcoming him home and Grandpa was hearing, “Well done, my good & faithful servant.” I’m thankful and so blessed to have the memories, pictures and stories to share with my future children of this sweet man. I’m forever grateful and his memory is forever in my heart.

What a Gift

I always wanted a sister. I remember growing up playing Micro Machines and building log cabins from Lincoln Logs with my brother. I climbed trees, participated in mud wars, go-cart racing, zip lines and building booby traps to keep away the annoying neighborhood kid from our fort. Looking back, I really have a ton of fond memories, great memories, but none of them were from playing Barbie’s. I didn’t neglect Barbie; I just didn’t get a lot of time with her due to wanting to have a play mate. Jordan was NOT going to play Barbie’s. Fast forward to the teenage years and all the sudden I became thankful I didn’t have a sister. The sharing of clothes and hogging time in the bathroom were battles I never had to endure. Now that Jordan and I are grown adults and I’ve officially hit the 3-0 mark I found it well pass due to finally get that sister I always wanted. Thankfully, Jordan met a beautiful lady and married her last November. Our relationship since has grown and it has been fun getting to know Oana. Last month, Oana finally came HOME. Billy and I met her at the airport when she landed and we all hit it off instantly. I really enjoyed spending time with my sister a week before Jordan came home from Afghanistan. Oana has fit perfectly into our family and I truly believe God gave her to us, not only to Jordan but to the family. Here are just a few pictures from her visit. Oana is back in Italy with my cute nephew Carlo while Jordan flew back to Afghanistan. Billy and I miss them both already!

Brightening up the dull Laundry Room

This past weekend Billy and I went to Folkston to have dinner with my parents. While mom and I were in the Library for some good girl talk, Billy was watching TV with Pop. On the ride home Billy told me that Pop said, “I didn’t get to finish my project this weekend, I don’t feel like I accomplished anything.” Billy said I was DEFINITELY my father’s child because I say that all the time. I’m a girl who loves a good project! Growing up Mom and Pop always had something they were working on. They were painting, building or turning something old into something beautiful. To me, a constant project is my normal.

Since we are currently undergoing a few big projects at Casa Bird, I felt the need to actually finish something. The Laundry room has been on my mind for weeks. I wanted to put a little color in there and had a good idea for the vintage frame I’ve had sitting in my garage for months. I decided not to paint the laundry room (well, because that’s all I’ve been doing in other rooms lately) and thought I’d just add a pop of color. The room gets scuffed up easily so that was my reasoning for not giving it a cheery overhaul. I’ve been dying for a chalkboard to write my grocery list on (and sweet nothings to my main squeeze, ha!) ever since we painted a chalkboard wall in my office at work over 4 years ago. I seem to always be in the middle of cooking or doing something and think, "I need ______" and write it down...then loose the piece of paper. This was my perfect solution. So here’s what I did…

1) Purchased some colorful bins at Wal-Mart to hide all of our stuff. Oliver stuff, Laundry stuff, Beach stuff, Mop accessories… you know, stuff.

2) Spray painted a vintage frame. Mom found this gorgeous frame in her attic one day & asked me if I wanted it. Ummm, yes, please!! I chose the color yellow because it’s cheery, an obvious laundry room color and it goes well with my teal bins. I secretly wanted to paint the frame pink! ;)

3) Painted the wall with chalkboard paint and then hung my lovely yellow vintage frame on the wall to showcase my grocery list. It’s the perfect spot for us since we live in the laundry room. Seriously, does laundry ever end?

I still have several other projects in the works (that I will eventually share) but for now, at least I feel accomplished & I won't forget to pick up the bread! Happy Monday :)

New York, New York by Frank Sinatra has such great memories for me. That song feels like home every time I hear it. As a kid my family would take vacations to New York to see my mom’s relatives. My parents would wake my brother and I up in the middle of the night singing the lyrics to New York, New York so we could get in the car and begin our journey. It was better than Disney to us! We would drive through the night and occasionally make a stop in D.C. We traveled with a cooler between my brother and I to try and avoid the bickering that would approach about the 9th hour of driving. You all know what I’m talking about, “He’s touching meeeee!!!!!” New York was one of my favorite places as a child. I remember seeing the city as a kid thinking, “there’s nothing like this”. So fast forward to today, my love for NYC hasn’t changed, it’s grown. I mean seriously, who doesn’t love the big apple? Recently, I had a week off with my husband and I knew where I wanted to go. I booked airfare and surprised Billy with a trip…throwing in a baseball game scored me many points. :) Billy himself found a love for NY last summer and we enjoyed this trip so much that we cannot wait to go again.

While there, we were able to spend time in the city and time at Aunt Donna & Uncle Jimmy’s house to see family. Seriously, staying the night with my Aunt Donna is better than booking a bed & breakfast. The Harry & David’s bedside chocolates were the kicker and Billy was ready to move in! The Mets were playing the Braves and we had a blast at the game. The Yankee Stadium tour was really neat for anyone who is in NYC for a day, especially a baseball fan, it’s worth getting the ticket. After “baseball” day was complete we took time to stroll Park Ave. and look for our next property investment (totally kidding). Shopped 5th Ave., walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, ate NY pizza (of course) and mastered the subway like pros. I already have a list of what I want to do next time we head to NYC! A little getaway

I always welcome time away with Billy so when he suggested we go to Georgia for the day, you can bet I didn’t think twice. He took us to Jekyll Island to spend the afternoon. It gave us a little day retreat, something to hold us over and refresh us until our upcoming “Spring Break”. We enjoyed walking the island, exploring the beach and finding a place to get some ice-cream. They have the cutest little shops and fun little treasures! Of course, I found a few things I wanted.

On the lawn of the Jekyll island club, we saw an older couple playing croquet. How adorable?! I sure hope Billy and I are as cute as they were playing croquet when we’re retired. I will eventually look forward to playing croquet, sipping fresh lemonade and wearing argyle all the while discussing the latest topics and how the grandchildren are coming to visit next week. I really shouldn't rush life but doesn't that sound wonderful? ha.

Afterwards, we had to make a pit-stop to Lowes. While Billy practically lives at Lowes, I don’t get to go as often as I like. I would imagine the typical date night was dinner, a movie and making a stop by the local hardware store. That’s what my parents did anyhow but mine don't quite go like that. I have to bribe to get him to go with me however; we desperately needed to get a plan together for our flower bed that died this winter. So we went in to research the garden center. We aren't professionals and we still need to edge and mulch this week but we are almost there! I should've taken a 'before' picture to show you all how bad our starting point was.

We are off to the big city this week; I hope to have some fun pictures and stories to share once we return.

We worked closely together through proofing until we came up with her new business identity. Celebrating the resurrection was so special. It was such a reminder of how thankful I am and need to be on a regular basis for what Jesus did for all of us. Yesterday, church was really good and reminded me of what is important. My Pastor does not preach to impress the masses but preaches God's word from his heart and each time he preaches I learn something new. I'm so thankful the Lord led Billy and I to Celebration. The best part, it's only a few miles from our home.

After church we went to have Easter dinner with my parents. While we missed Jordan, Oana and Carlo terribly...the dinner was fantastic! My mom can cook with the best of them. Nothing beats a good Sunday dinner at her house. I told her to watch out…when my brother and his family are finally home living here in FL, she's on dinner duty after church every Sunday! Mom has a gift of making each holiday really special. Here are a few pictures of our dinner with them. Afterwards, Billy and I headed home to see our boy, Oliver, and play in the sun. It was beautiful day!

Update from Afghanistan

I had a chance to talk to my brother, Jordan, today. It was really nice to catch up with him and hear how he is doing. It's not always easy to have my only sibling (or any sibling for that matter for those blessed with several) a world away and in danger zone. I’m so thankful for technology and the ease it gives in communicating. Can you imagine what WWI&II was like for families? I don’t even want to fathom life without my dear friend, Instant Messenger!

In spirit of April Fools Day I wanted to tease Jordan but didn't have the heart to do so. I remember the last year that Jordan was home on April Fools Day. He came to my office and we decided to tag team. We had a lot of really good jokes that year…I’m sure our friends and family didn’t appreciate them as much as we did. It was fun nonetheless. Since that day of pranks I realized that the wisest thing is to never believe what people tell you on April 1st. So to those out there that I talked to today, I didn’t believe half of what you told me. :)

Annoyances: not for the sensitive at heart

I have a few random thoughts from the past week or two that keep coming to mind and I just have to share/vent them on my public space…that’s part of having a blog, right? Here we go...

• My mom put an E on my name for a reason. I am not brook, I am Brooke…it looks finished with an E. I’m starting a new trend by replying and misspelling your name on purpose. It may be wrong but it makes me feel better. :)

• I am a rules follower, always have been. I don’t understand those who think rules do not apply to them…if you sign up for a full time job/event, work full time. Otherwise, you are stealing.

• Some may have been a queen in HS but your crown is long gone, so stop acting like you are Ms. America. News flash: the world doesn’t revolve around you and you're not that cute anymore.

• I am looking into purchasing a few Miss Manners' Books; I’ve realized I need to gift these to a few friends and family.

• I hate cats. I do. They make me sneeze and I have one that lives near me that likes to use my front porch. It’s time to invest in a bb gun… it worked when we were kids! Harsh? Yes. Works? Yes.

• I struggle with sympathy, I get it honestly. If you are a hypochondriac and cry wolf all the time…I stop giving sympathy so don’t look here for it.

• Politics – don’t leave defensive comments for all to see if you don’t know what you are talking about! Get informed, stay informed. It’s imperative for our future.

Meet Oliver

Oliver stole my heart from first sight! After my birthday dinner earlier in the month Billy and I walked into a nearby pet store just to "look". I said, "If there is a cocker spaniel in here we are in trouble!" As some of you know, Sophie (who lives with my parents), also a cocker spaniel that made it into our lives because she was sooo cute after a trip to the pet store to “look” about five years ago. Obviously I need to stay out of pet stores!! However, Oliver was sitting there with his brother and looked soooo cute. I couldn't bare the thought of splitting up "brothers" and we walked away because I definitely did not want two dogs in our new home. After two days I couldn't get this little guy off my mind so I called the store to see if he was still there and he was. Unknowingly that same afternoon, Billy had called to see if he was still there. Once we realized we both had called, we were in the car to rescue him from puppy prison and give him a new home. Oliver has done a fabulous job training and he is soo smart. We are enjoying him and glad to have a new member of the Bird household! Oh, and my friend ended up going to the puppy store to "look" and purchased Oliver's brother! Needless to say, I am guilt free and now Oliver can see his brother, Jake, anytime!

Turning 30

Last week I celebrated my 30th Birthday...30th! It was the first birthday where I could remember my mom at that age and quite frankly, it freaked me out. I was not looking forward to it at all but Billy has informed me that 30s are way better than 20s...so far he is right! My birthday ended up being so wonderful and I am actually enjoying this new chapter. Here's a few highlights that made my day special...

After the morning at home, we drove to GA to have Christmas with my parents. Since I was a kid, mom and pop usually like to send us on a hunt for our “big” gift. This year was no different with reading a clue that lead to another…after 10 clues and lots of time figuring out each rhyme (and lots of laughing) we were lead outside to a beautiful patio set. We were so surprised! I just wanted to brag a little and show off the beautiful patio furniture we received on Christmas from my parents. Mom found this vintage patio set ... restored it, painted it and adorned it with new cushions…just for us! Isn’t it great? I was so excited! Now I get to decorate my patio and give it pizzazz!

I am so excited for spring now so we can enjoy this patio even more!

There's nothing more cozy than an intimate Christmas party by the fire with some of your closest friends. Saturday night we had a little gathering and had the best time! Unfortunately, Billy had to work but he was off yesterday to make it out with me to another Christmas party with friends. We've had a great time and I cannot believe Christmas is this week! I feel like summer just ended. Christmas morning will be extra fun this year as we celebrate for the first time in our home. I'm looking forward to it!! Christmas Cookie Tradition

Christmas traditions are so much fun and everyone looks forward to them because…it’s just what you do. Well, decorating Christmas cookies is on the top of my tradition list. My mom bakes the best sugar cookies and makes homemade icing and then everyone gathers around the table to make them all pretty. I enjoy the endless sugar cookies to decorate, my Pop decorating two and eating one – decorating two and eating (repeat), Mom telling everyone to be sure they look “pretty”, me getting “out” of decorating when I get bored because I claim we must document the process with pictures, Billy decorating one each year that says, “I love Brooke” – how sweet is he!? For all these reasons, this is my all time favorite tradition. Another reason it’s my favorite Christmas tradition is because my parents started it when they were newlyweds. Through the years we’ve had friends and family join us; numerous close friends and family have at one point shared in this tradition. Such great memories!! This past weekend, my parents along with Sophie came over to the “Bird House” for the cookie fun. We all had a great time! We did miss Jordan, Oana and Carlo though and are hoping next year everyone is around the table…Mom will have a lot more baking to do next year!

Wow, I cannot believe it’s been a year since I married the best man I know. A year ago Billy and I married in a beautiful garden wedding surrounded by our family and friends. Dean, Frank and Nat King Cole along with other greats played throughout the air in the background as we swirled around the gorgeous yard celebrating with loved ones on a cool December afternoon. Yes, it was magical. The day was perfect and Billy couldn’t have been more handsome.

In the past year of marriage I have learned that:

- I love him so much more today than yesterday

- It’s okay to forget the dishes for a night and sit on the couch holding his hand

- Compromise

- The beauty of seeing God work in our marriage is priceless

- No one is perfect but I married darn near close! :)

- Being home with Billy is better than any event taking place in the world

- He’s a good man for picking up after me, I tend to leave shoes where I take them off…it’s my downfall (okay, one of many)

- Marriage to your best friend makes life easier and a lot of fun

- If making lemonade every other day and giving him a back scratch makes him the happiest man in the world, who am I to deny him that?

- Communication is key but so is prayer

- He loves UGA and if I need to cheer them on to make a happy house, I will cheer with the best of them…

- Having no pets work for us, ‘borrowing’ Sophie for a few days does the trick.

- Hitting the road and not knowing where you’ll end up makes for the best vacations

- I truly did marry the perfect man God set aside just for me! This past year has more than confirmed that. (good thing, right?) :)

- Billy is the absolute funniest person I know! I don’t think many people get to share in this fact because he seems reserved.

- I’ve learned a new (and the “correct”) way to fold t-shirts! :)

- Don’t give a man instructions, let the GPS tell them they are wrong, ha

- I’ve married a sensitive soul and he’s really incredible with me on my worst days

- The most fun I have had to date is with Billy

- I think he likes Target more than I do, if that’s possible

- Each day I have been complimented and each night I haven’t hit the pillow without hearing the sweet words, “I love you, babe” ...what a sweet gift!

- I couldn’t be more grateful for the fact that I get to grow old with my best friend!!

It’s been the best year. We were talking the other night and agreed it’s been the best year of our lives. We are still so amazed and grateful at how the Lord brought us together. We had a beautiful wedding, purchased our first home, traveled to New York and back, been on several weekend road trips, made many wonderful memories along the way and I look forward to many many more years to come!!!

After a year and a half of dating, Jordan knew he had to marry Oana. She is his perfect fit and makes him so happy! I’ve long awaited the day he would find the perfect girl for him but never suspected he would have to live abroad to do so. :-) A girl that “gets” my brother as he has always gone against the grain but that’s what makes him Jordan and what we all love. Italy has done him well; he has a new beautiful bride. Welcome to the family, Oana. We are looking forward to the ceremony here so we can celebrate as a family what the good Lord has brought together. Many blessings to you both!

Let's Say Thanks

As Thanksgiving Day approaches it makes me think about how many things I have to be thankful for. My list is long; I have been so very blessed! In a few short weeks my brother, Jordan, will be leaving to go back to war. As the holidays approach and his leave is upon us it reminds me of how thankful I am to our soldiers. These men and women fight day and night for our freedom. They don’t get the conveniences of every day life; they miss their families, spouses and children and yet do not complain while they are away for a year at a time (sometimes longer).

My cousin sent me an email about something neat Xerox is doing for our soldiers. If you go to this web site, http://www.letssaythanks.com/, you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it. The card will be sent to a solider that is currently serving in Iraq. How awesome would it be if everyone sent one of these out and soldiers were shown how much we appreciate them while they continue to fight during the upcoming holiday season? I’m so thankful for these men and women and am proud to be an American living in the land of the free because of people like them and veterans of our past.

Photog Retreat 2010 [Bahamas] is officially in works! When Kathryn Brown Photography asked me if I would consider being a sponsor for the winter photog retreat, I was energized. I thought it was a perfect fit for my design business! I love photography and always have but more importantly I am able to offer opportunities through my sponsorship in merging my two favorite arts (design and photography) together. Fall Bag

Recently, I was on a business trip in Chicago and spotted this beautiful pumpkin colored Kathy bag (oh how I adore Kathy) that I couldn’t get out of my head. After the conference was over, I went back to rescue it from the restraints of retail so it could sport around with me during all my fall adventures. It was a must have and I’m loving this color. There’s so many gorgeous fall bags out there, I’m also loving the big hobo style metallic’s.

Oh, how I adore Fall! Regrettably, living in the sunny state does not allow us to get the full effects of this fabulous season, which makes me miss living in Virginia just a little bit. However, the temperature does drop at some point and in the meantime I get to decorate with some of my favorite colors and sip the 'oh-so-yum' Pumpkin Spice Latte!

This past weekend, Billy and I took a "quick" trip to Lowe’s for some items to help us finish a few house projects we have going on (more on those later). Just before check out I spotted this gorgeous mum and had to have it! Mums are one of my favorite components of Fall and I love how the yellow mum adds a little "pop" to our entry way. Now I just need to find (or create) the perfect wreath for my front door. I’m also thinking about a hay man too for the rocking chair, hmmm. I must find an old pair of overalls!

Waiting Pays Off

Recently, Billy and I had a “date night” that lead to pure excitement! We were going to do the usual dinner and a movie since he had worked all day and we wanted something low key. However, after dinner we had about an hour to spend before the movie. We discussed browsing the furniture store because…well, it’s just plain fun! What we didn’t know is that we were about to miss our movie and purchase the very dining table set that I’ve had my eye on for almost a year. When we were engaged I had spotted this table and loved it but had sticker shock and walked right out the store. After pining over this table I do believe the Lord is GOOD and saved it just for me. When I walked over to the table and the sign was slashed with a red marker (Oooo, I love those red markers!) I began to feel like it was Christmas morning…you know that giddy feeling when you know something great is about to transpire!? Needless to say we missed our movie and went home happy-happy campers. Here’s my 60” table of goodness that we purchased for half off. It pays to wait. Unfortunately, it’s not the best picture as I have a bad habit of taking quick photos with my iPhone instead of pulling out my camera. I’m thinking that date nights now just may be a bit dangerous – we spotted a lovely leather piece I think would look perfect in our family room. :)

Ten states in Seven days!

Billy and I had the last week of August off for vacation. We didn’t really have a plan, we just wanted to be off at the same time and enjoy each other. We decided to head to Atlanta for the weekend to visit with his sister, Peggy, and thought we’d catch a Braves game while we were there (a once a summer ‘must-do’ according to Billy). At the Sunday afternoon Braves game Billy said, “Wouldn’t it be fun to keep going and head north”. I wasn’t sure if he was serious so I told him not to tease me. We talked about doing this at some point, maybe next year, but never did I think we were going to take this trip now. He wasn’t kidding, he said it would be fun to just get in the car and see where we end up, start by heading to Washington D.C. So we did! I was excited; I love a good road trip and was SO thankful that we both had over packed. After the game we headed to Wal-mart, a necessary pit stop before any road trip! We got an oil change and shopped while we waited. It was fun loading up with water, cheez-its, candy, you know... fun car food. Shortly after saying goodbye to Peggy & Mark, whom I sure thought we were nuts, we were on the highway. We arrived in DC by Monday AM and immediately started touring (yes, with no sleep). It was Billy’s first trip to DC and I haven’t been since a kid so we both were looking forward to sightseeing. By late afternoon we found a hotel downtown and decided to clean up and find food – we had been living off of car goodies and needed serious nutrition! Monday evening we continued touring and saw the Washington monument, Lincoln memorial and the White House. Luckily, Obama was on his 25k vacation so we didn’t have any run-ins. :-) Tuesday we toured all the Smithsonian museums, exhausting but it was a blast. DC really is a wonderful place full of interesting sights, tons of history and free things to do.

Wednesday we decided to head north again, ending up in Baltimore for breakfast & to see the Orioles stadium. We made it to Philadelphia in time for lunch – a Philly Cheese steak was a must. I saw the Liberty Bell in college on a road trip but wanted Billy to see it as well – we walked around Philly and had a great time!

New York City, my favorite place on earth, was our final destination. We arrived in NY for dinner and enjoyed a couple days in the big apple. Billy wanted to see the Yankee Stadium (if you haven’t noticed a theme, I have a major baseball fan on my hands!) and I wanted him to see all the touristy sights, Lady Liberty, Times Square, Macy’s, Central Park…you know, the good stuff! We had fun riding the subway and getting around Manhattan. I’m proud to say we didn’t get lost once – years of riding the subway, I think I finally “got it”. I love the fast pace and rush of the city, however, after the big city Billy said he was just about ready to head back to Georgia. He’s such a southern man but I love that about him. Thursday evening my Aunt Donna & Uncle Jimmy treated us to a boat ride to Fire Island (no cars allowed on the island!) for dinner and a sunset toast. We had a lot of fun and it was the perfect way to end our fun spontaneous summer vacation!

Friday morning it was time to head home, we wanted to recoup before “life” hit again on Monday. We drove; correction…Billy drove, the entire 18 hours home! We hit traffic and bad weather on the drive home so it extended our trip by 3 hours. We arrived back home by 3:30 AM and I have NEVER been so excited nor thankful for my bed. It was such a fun trip and I’m glad we were able to have this adventure together. Five major cities: ATL, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC; 2,300 miles; 450 pictures; $52.60 in toll fees; 10 states in 7 days and all with my best friend!

This is what I came home to last night...

You all know I love a hard working man! He’s wonderful to me. Billy made sure the house was spotless, vacuumed, kitchen cleaned and not a stitch of dirty laundry (except what we were wearing). We both are a bit OCD and do not like leaving a mess behind so he took care of everything. Now we are taking the week off to enjoy each other and actually do something besides work…and housework! I'm looking forward to 10 days of bliss! :) Have a happy weekend/week everyone.

Have you ever loved doing something so much you would do it for free…with a smile!? That’s exactly how I feel about designing for my clients; I really do love the process of working with them to execute their vision or ideas through custom design. Although, after years of voluntary work I decided early last year that it was time to venture out and started Trendy Ink Designs. I have been blessed with fabulous clients and am grateful for this road the Lord has lead me on.

So recently, I decided it was time to finish up a project that has been in the works the past year. It’s been a long time coming but my website is officially up and running with updated content. Celebrating in the Outer Banks

The family arrived in Manteo, North Carolina early Friday morning. Everyone seemed excited to be in a quaint town full of new experiences but the best part was having the family together again. It’s rare that we get to have all of my moms’ siblings and their families in the same location. There are five siblings so someone is usually missing. We were all gathering for a big day, an exciting day…my cousin, Jay, was getting married! Personally, I was thrilled because as the bride at the last family wedding I didn’t get to hardly visit or enjoy everyone. I found the trip a perfect opportunity to celebrate with Jay & his new sweet wife, Beth, and enjoy my New York family. Unfortunately, Billy had to work and couldn’t make the trip; he also missed out on all my dance moves! *Maybe that's a good thing!?* That’s right; we all danced the night away at the reception. I’d love to go back to the Outer Banks and stay at the Roanoke Island Inn again; it was such a lovely place!

I woke up this past weekend knowing I wanted to do something different than our "usual". Billy asked me what I wanted to do and I told him I wasn't sure, I just wanted an adventure. We had already conquered the beach, shopping, house projects and I couldn't put my finger on just what it was I wanted to do. A few moments later Billy came to me and told me to put on my tennis shoes. Okay, wait - are we talking a pony tail day!? He said yes - so I continued to ask questions and figured out whatever adventure he was going to take me on required going all out. I'm not talking about dolling up and sporting my fav heels...going all out in my pony tail, Diesel sneakers, and packing a smaller cooler with ice and water.

Billy was taking me to the Okefenokee Park to do some trailing! I must say it was extremely fun and it was my first trip there. Before trailing the Okefenokee, my days of playing in the woods and seeing huge banana spiders had ended on Braddock road. Braddock road was my childhood street where to survive each kid owned a go-cart or four wheeler, a BB gun or machete and a canteen and no one returned home until the dinner bell rang. Our hike this past weekend through the woods definitely brought me back 20 years! We had so much fun I might just want to go again...soon!

Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a different kind of project for Trendy Ink Designs…something new! One of my oldest and dearest friends approached me about possibly designing his new self titled EP cover and CD design. Of course I jumped at the opportunity because it’s not everyday I get to work with a country music star! :) The new EP features four hits produced by David Fanning and Mott himself, the first song “Don’t Give up on Me” is my personal favorite! I’m so excited to see Mott finally living his dream. I cannot wait until he makes it to the big stage so I can travel back up to Nashville and watch him shine. Until then, keep up with Mott Braddock and his journey here on his new website, he truly is a hidden talent yet to be unveiled.

I love-love designing anything wedding related. It's such a happy time for the bride, her groom and their families as wedding preparations take place. Taylor contacted me at the beginning of the year about her December '09 wedding. After meeting with Taylor I was excited to start thinking about design concepts because she is an "out of the box" thinker. She did not want anything too traditional and everything in the stores did not seem to spark her interest. I was thrilled to take on the challenge! Together we came up with a unique & personalized wedding package. While the invitations are at the press I will share with you the ‘Save the Date’ she mailed a few weeks ago - it's a magnet! A day in Savannah

This past weekend Billy and I woke up knowing we just didn’t want to stick around town. Saturday, June 27, had marked our 1 year “anniversary” to the first day we actually met for a lunch date face to face after emailing for about 5 weeks prior. By the way, we both left that lunch date knowing we would eventually marry and 5 months later as you all know, we did! God is so good. Here's Billy on another improptu interview, he sure does love me to put up with all my interviewing!

Anyway, we thought about going to Orlando for the day and decided Savannah would be better! Sad to say, neither of us had been there to visit. Pure *shock* if you grew up in the south. I’ve driven through countless times on numerous trips but never stopped to take in the beauty of Savannah and I’m so glad we did! It is such a beautiful place to spend a Saturday. Although, I must admit that a visit in June wasn’t our brightest idea! We walked all over the city (who needs those carriage rides anyway!?) and it was at least 99 degrees that day. Needless, to say though it was a blast!

We have not perfected the self portrait...in due time.

My personal goal was to have some of Paula Deen’s yummy food at her oh so popular restaurant, Lady and Sons , and I wasn’t disappointed! When we got there the sign said that they were booked for lunch and dinner, I was crushed! Booked? What?? Billy went up and talked to the hostess and asked her if there was any way that she could fit just the two of us in and she gave him the golden ticket (actually it was blue). =) Straight up to the 3rd floor we went. The place was crowded with people eating lunch and everyone looked happy! How couldn’t they be happy? They were eating Paula’s food. It’s probably a heart attack waiting to happen but it’s a southern gals dream. I do recommend the lunch buffet filled with fried chicken, ribs, baked chicken, Mac & cheese and numerous southern styled veggies. We both ate for under $35 – not bad for a hot spot!

After lunch we walked and walked some more. I’ve been on the hunt for “the perfect” pictures for our bedroom. To no avail a lovely boutique had just what I was looking for! I was excited to have found the perfect pieces to make our bedroom a little more complete. Decorating a home is exhausting (but fun)!

We ended the day with several cold bottles of water on the drive home and were happy to have had the time to get away and enjoy Savannah together. I love getting away for the day with my best friend, what could be better!? We’re hoping to go back in the Fall once the weather is a bit cooler.

June, already!?

Is it really June 1? Time sure does pass quickly when you're having fun! Billy and I had a great & busy weekend together. Since he usually works 2-3 weekends a month when his full weekend off comes around we play and play hard! Living only 14 miles to the beach helps us satisfy our weekly crave for the sun & sand. We found lots of shells and worked on our tan. I even found 12 (yes, 12) sharks teeth Saturday! Saturday evening we went on a "couples date" with our family (Billy's Niece and Nephew), Hamilton & Charlsie. We enjoyed dinner, great conversation, a little shopping and capped off the night at O'Kane's...a local favorite with a great live band. Here's a fun picture I snapped with my iPhone of our niece and nephew (ha!). We couldn't pass up this photo-opp. Next time, Billy and I will have to get in the picture.
We had so much fun this past weekend that I was wiped out & asleep by 10:00PM Sunday night - that's unlike my "night-owl" nature. I look forward to the summer weekends ahead with a lot more playing in our future.

Military Ball

As most of you know my brother, Jordan, is serving his military time in Italy. This past weekend he went to his Military Ball. He said it was a great time with his buddies, laughing and enjoying a night of fun. These guys really do work very hard and are doing a service I'm sooo thankful for. Please keep his unit in your prayers as they are training off and on to gear up for another deployment at the end of the year. Here are some pictures from the Ball.

Date Night!

Billy and I had a weekend long date. It was wonderful, we really enjoyed ourselves. We braved the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina on Saturday. We woke up at 7AM to beat the crowd and it was nice to shop & enjoy the gorgeous day. The shrimp was so yummy and we were able to visit with Pop as well, he met us there. By the time we left it was insane, I'm so glad we woke up extra early to beat the madness! We also went to the beach for a little bit and I met a man who caught a shark. He let me "pet" the shark before he tossed him back in the ocean. That was kind of cool. Mom, Mrs. Wendy & Kristen were there for the weekend enjoying a girls getaway so we were able to see them for a little bit too. By the evening we were ready for more so we decided to head towards St. Augustine. We had so much fun! I'm very blessed and so thankful to have a husband who is sweet, hilarious & my BEST friend! Spring Break

It’s just that time of year when you want everything to stop around you. Billy had been working so much and I had spring fever…badly – it was time for a vacation. We took the week after Easter off to enjoy each other and get some much needed sunshine! We were not quite sure of our plans for the week but knew it would end with the Bird family reunion in Orlando, FL. On Tuesday of our break we decided it was time to leave the house and hit the road so we went shopping for all the necessary road trip items (chocolate, a cooler full of bottle water, homemade cookies, peanuts…you get the idea, lots of junk!). Wednesday AM we packed the car and headed south. We decided to stop in Daytona to enjoy the day on the beach, it was gorgeous out!! We debated staying the evening in Daytona but opted to go ahead and head to Orlando. We didn’t plan on going to any parks while we were there but it ended up that we did & now have season passes to the Universal parks for the year. It was fun to ride roller coasters, get some sunshine, laugh & dine together with no worries on picking up the house or cleaning the kitchen! I sure did rest up and we certainly enjoyed being ‘away’ for a little bit, just the two of us…I even gave up status updates and twitter for an entire 10 days so I could detox from technology. Ha! When my cousin Katie announced she was pregnant I was so excited for her & her husband, Trey. This will be their first child and I can only imagine the excitement and joy of this special time. My mom is hosting the family baby shower-dinner this month and asked that I design the invitations. I asked her what theme she was doing for Katie’s baby girl and mom said, “Raggedy Ann & Andy” – What!? It seemed so old school I became nervous – I loved them as a child but that was the 80s! I decided to put an updated spin on it and designed the invitations which I think came out pretty cute! Mom showed me the decorations for the shower-dinner and I’m no longer scared! She always pulls through and I think it’s going to be a fun shower sharing in their anticipation! I’m so sorry for doubting you Mom, Raggedy Ann and Andy! :-)

“Shines like the top of the Chrysler Building”

When I was a little girl my brother and I had to help mom clean the bathrooms. Mom would always say to us, “I want it to shine like the top of the Chrysler building!” As an adult there is nothing I appreciate more than a bathroom that “Shines like the top of the Chrysler Building” – ha! Thank you, mom. I think the Lord knew even this small detail when I married Billy because that man knows how to clean and make things shine! I came home from a looong day at work yesterday to both bathrooms sparkling clean! Oh, how I adore my husband!! I appreciate surprises like these; it smelled so good I wanted to hang out in the master bath all night, ha. Here’s a quick pix from my iPhone. We’re thinking about painting a very soft blue in there to match our new décor!?!? I need to purchase a few more accessories and paint – shopping trip!

I love St. Patty's Day! Growing up Irish we were sure to celebrate big on Patty's Day. I have fond memories of waking up to Irish music blasting through the house (also known as our year round “cleaning music”). Mom would serve us green pancakes for breakfast and corn beef and cabbage for dinner. Pop even gave us GREEN MILK one year for breakfast when I was home from college for Spring Break with all my girls. Everything was green. Ha! Last year my family and I were in NY celebrating in the city with New York family at the parade along with all the other good Irishmen. Here's a couple of my favs from our fun last year.

Trendy Ink has a new home!

When Billy and I purchased our house a couple weeks ago, I was super excited! Not only because this freed us from apartment living but because of the extra space. I knew Trendy Ink would be an orphan no more! I’ve envisioned this room so many times in my mind and it is now reality. I have a few more special touches but for now I couldn’t wait any longer to share…

It’s official. Billy and I are home owners! Setting out to find the perfect home for us was not an easy task. I thought it would be simple, and it turned out to be a bit tough…what side of town do we look on, do we stay in Jacksonville, do we purchase brand-new or look into foreclosures!? Finally, after much prayer and searching, good things come to those who wait! We found a brand-new home. I truly believe after finding this home that it was built just for us and that the Lord knew it would be our future home. It has everything we had on our “must-have” list and more! We’re extremely thankful for the Lord’s guidance and are excited about what else He may have in store for our future. God has truly blessed us with a wonderful new home. We’re not quite sure what to do with all this space…okay that’s a lie! We’ve claimed all the extra rooms and we have big plans for decorating. I love to decorate therefore there’s a ton of projects in our future. I even think I’m going to keep my Pop busy with a few ideas I have in mind!

I decided to post 25 random things about me, this trend was going around with other bloggers and on facebook so I decided to join in the fun!

1. I crave chocolate at least once a week.
2. Jesus is my best friend & I don’t know how people manage life without Him.
3. I love New York, love it!
4. Paris was amazing and I dream of going back but this time with my love.
5. I turned 29 years old 30 days after marrying Billy.
6. Billy is the best thing that has happened to me & I’m thankful God saved him just for me!
7. I talk to mom at least once a day, sometimes 3x a day.
8. Sophie Mae is the cutest pup ever; she can get anything from me with one sweet hug!
9. I miss my brother but glad he has the opportunity to live in Italy and travel. He’s my American hero and I’m so proud of him. I might be jealous he gets to live in Europe tho!
10. Traveling is one of my passions – Israel (makes the BIBLE come alive), Paris, London, Switzerland, Germany, Austria all were amazing and I recommend a Europe travel package to anyone!
11. I have OCD
12. I hate to vacuum and Billy loves it – so it works out for us.
13. I dream weird dreams all the time and my sweet husband gets to hear how weird I am each morning when I tell him about it.

17. After leaving from my first “date” with Billy, I knew he was the man I would marry. And we did 5 months later.

19. Mom and I planned my garden dream wedding in only 8 weeks – it doesn’t take a year, you just gotta know what you want!

21. I had a major crush on Jordan Knight when I was in fifth grade, NKOTB rocks!
22. I’m addicted to XM radio and don’t mind the expense, it’s worth it!
23. I can be cheap, I will scout out an item 5x over before committing to purchase hoping it will hit the clearance rack by the time I ‘have to have it’!
24. I despise Wal-mart but seem to torture myself a few times a month there and don’t know why I do.
25. I have a problem with people wanting a handout and refusing to get a JOB!

Two months ago today was the best day, ever! Billy & I had a wonderful garden wedding in the backyard of my parents’ home in Georgia. My parents went above and beyond, even the food my mom catered (yes, she did it all) was gorgeous! Everything my mom and I had discussed had been executed perfectly – my outdoor dream wedding had become reality. I am a “details” girl, they are important so Pop surprised us with a large wooden “B” hanging in the entry way, so creative! Mom found mini chandeliers to match my larger one so there was more glitz in the trees. They even bought me a baby grand piano to place in the yard! I really wish we could turn back time so I could be a guest to this fabulous event; I’d love to go back and soak in all the remarkable details we worked so hard on. Thankfully, Lyndsay and Anderson captured all of the fabulousness for me since we cannot go back in time. Ha! I will share more wedding album spreads in the near future. TrendyInk has been busy lately (and for that I am thankful!) so there’s not much time for a lot of personal designing at the moment – it’s a process. The past 8 weeks have been nothing but amazing! Mystery Film

I’ve moved several times in the last 5 years, actually I moved each year. In all my moving I packed along a mystery roll of film. I wasn’t too sure where it came from or how far back those mystery memories were captured. Recently, I stumbled across the film roll again as I was organizing some areas in the new apartment. I finally decided it was time to unleash those mystery pictures and take a trip to Wal-mart. Come to find out, they do not develop film in an hour. I was not really surprised; I mean how many people develop from film anymore? Last night I picked up the pictures, it was fun reliving these 2003 moments again!

Miss Sophie

I've been contemplating a new pet, a sweet-loving puppy. Billy quickly reminds me that I have one and it's time to visit my parents for the 'fix'. Sunday, it hit - I MISSED SOPHIE! As silly as it sounds, I just absolutely had to see her! Sophie knows that when her 'mommy' shows up there's always a new toy in tow...I couldn't disappoint. Sunday afternoon I made a pit stop to PetSmart for a cute new play toy and hit the road. I began thinking about all those early-early mornings while potty training her, the expense at the vet & most importantly those expensive haircuts at the beauty parlor every 6 weeks...I snap out of my "I want a new puppy" mode and just enjoy my visit with my other true love, Miss Sophie Mae. On my surprise visit Sophie was super excited and extra grateful for her new toy. We played a lot, enjoyed momma's home cooking and watched movies together - it was a relaxing afternoon in Folkston!

I have never screamed so loud! I do not like insects much less rodents! I screamed and jumped on top of a chair and asked Billy to get it. Then I slowly realized with him remaining calm and not seeing a tail or creepy whiskers wag - it was fake! I was going to kill Billy - end of story. He laughed like I'd never seen him laugh before. Game on! It's pay backs in the Bird house. :) Any suggestions, ladies? After I calmed down and realized it was all a joke, not a real rodent in my house, I was okay. I'm still thinking paybacks are due. ha! Is this what life is living with a boy? Atleaset they make it interesting! :)

Potato Flakes

Being a newlywed has been very exciting. Billy and I have so much fun together. He’s such a help around the house and I’m very blessed to have a “hands-on” husband who can take charge with chores. One duty that we do not share is the kitchen, I am the top chef in the Bird house (and that is not saying very much). Here’s a funny conversation that happened the other night as I was cooking:

Brooke: (in kitchen cooking pork chops, mashed potatoes and broccoli)

Billy: What is THAT?

Brooke: What is what?

Billy: The cereal box by the stove?

Brooke: You mean the potato flakes?

Billy: Huh?

Brooke: You’ve never seen potato flakes, have you?

Billy: No

Brooke: This is a working woman’s mashed potato

Road Trip

This past weekend Billy was off work and so we decided to head towards Atlanta. Billy loves “going home” and it’s always nice to visit with family that is kind enough to allow us to crash at their home (thank you, Mark & Peggy!). We set out with a “To-Do” list and accomplished everything we set out to do. We had a lot of fun!

Billy’s #1 “To-Do”: Eat at the Varsity

This was the first time for me; it was so yummy we might just have to go again soon.

Brooke’s #1 “To-Do”: Visit the World's Largest Aquarium
Neither of us had been to an aquarium and so I really wanted to go. I took lots of pictures of all the beautiful and strange looking mammals & fish!

I think the Beluga Whales were my favorite!
We also were able to visit with friends, shop at IKEA & make it home in time to rest up for the work week. I’m already looking forward to our next trip!

Monday Billy surprised me with fun Birthday gifts at 6:30AM – he is so sweet and knows exactly how to ‘butter my bread’, I LOVE PRESENTS! After the gift opening we headed to the most magical place on earth to celebrate, Disney World! I wanted to spend my special day with the mouse with big ears so that’s exactly what we did. We haven’t been to Disney in years so it was a lot of fun to make new memories in the Magic Kingdom! Here’s a clip of Billy as I interviewed him in front of Cinderella’s Castle.

2008 Rewind

As I look at the year past and look ahead at what’s to come I realize how blessed I am – we all are. The Lord has blessed me beyond measure this year and stretched me in ways I never thought possible. I’m excited to bring in the New Year with my new husband in a matter of hours! 2009 is going to be an exciting new ride. I wanted to share a few of my favorite highlights from the past year.

A year ago today Pop was teaching me to drive the family boat, so fun! Sad to say, the family boat went to a happier family & that cold cash helped pay for my dream wedding!

March - Jordan came home for his mid-tour from serving in Afghanistan. We were so excited to have him home and be able to hug on him. Mom, Pop & I traveled to NY to pick him up from JFK. We spent about a week in NY with our NY family and had a blast with St. Patty's Day Parades, a Welcome Home Party for Jordan and of course some NY Shopping!

April - My sweet baby girl, Sophie Mae, turned 4!
May - A group of friends went out in style to celebrate Jon's Birthday. It was such a fun night and many memories made by all! Also in May something very special happend, I met my Love!

July - Celebrating the fourth with Family & Friends. Pop and I even met a few pirates! We spent the day on our boat and then fireworks in the evening in Fernandina, it was a fun way to celebrate July 4th!

August - Jordan is FINALLY HOME from a 15 month tour in Afghanistan. Such a sweet time with friends and family, so many showed up at JIA to show Jordan their love & support. Pop got first hug, glad I could capture it. It is one of my favorite treasured pictures. Also in August Jordan bought Pop some water skis and we hit the river - it was so fun to see Pop get up and slalom like he did before us kids!

September - Jon, Gail & I headed on I-95 for a quick weekend road trip. We ended up staying the night at the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine. It was definitely a highlighted weekend because we had so much fun! I adore friends + randomness = perfect weekend.

October - Billy proposed! I've already blogged about this special event so I will spare the mushy details, ha, but October was a very special month for me!

November - Special friends of mine threw my Bachelorette Party and it was so much fun! I enjoyed having a sweet time with all my girls.

December - has been the most wonderful month of all. December 6th I married my love - we had a short engagement because we didn't want to wait, we were so excited. Mom and I planned a gorgeous garden wedding in 8 weeks! I cannot wait to blog about my big day early next year.

Christmas 2008! Billy & I had a fabulous first married Christmas together and are looking forward to the New Year!

Kriner Christmas Tradition

I’m big on traditions – if we did it as kids, we still gotta do it! Even at 28 years old I insist on certain traditions being carried out (I think I can get away with it until I have children of my own). Until then I will insist upon having our fun holiday traditions we had as kids. Mom, since even before I was born, bakes dozens of Christmas shaped sugar cookies and makes colorful icing. Jordan and I use to love this tradition as kids – eat one, decorate one, eat one, decorate one! We probably learned that pattern from Pop. Even though Jordan couldn’t be here with us since he is living in Italy (we miss you terribly kid!) we still had to decorate cookies. This year was no exception; we continued on tradition and decorated our hearts out. Mom is awesome at getting everything ready for us and Pop is good at making it a time to remember. What a whirlwind of a month! Billy & I had a fabulous garden wedding and a fun, relaxing honeymoon. Finally, back into the swing of things I want to post some pictures from our honeymoon in Key West, FL and the Bahamas. We took a 6 day cruise and enjoyed every minute. Here's some highlights below.

Life's Unexpected Gifts

I cannot believe how fast this year is moving. January proved to be a rough start for me in 2008. The spring was calm and interesting; the summer was fun and eventful; the fall has been a whirl-wind of pure excitement! I'm 23 days out from being a MRS. The winter will prove to be my season of love and answered prayer. Good things do come to those who wait. I've asked the Lord to bless me in His timing with a man who loves Him more than anything. A man who would love me unconditionally, a man who had a sweet spirit and of course a man who was tall, dark & handsome. That is the exact man the Lord gave me. When Billy proposed on October 7th I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! Only weeks from now, December 6th, I will become Mrs. Billy Bird - how wonderful! I've learned so much this year and I know 2009 will definitley be a year of learning as well being a newlywed. I am so excited to see where the Lord brings us. I also plan to blog more and post wedding pictures after the big day.

My Pink Ink

So last month I decided to do something I've been contemplating for over a year. I finally got my wrist tattoo. It was a "big" decision for me because I'm so indecisive but turns out after a month, I still love it. Last summer I went with my Mom and we got shamrock tats on our right foot. This didn't hurt near as badly as the foot did and I've discovered I can hide it easily with my bracelets when I don't want to show it off...I do work at a conservative Baptist Church. I know, they think I'm a rebel.

Back on U.S. Soil

It was such a good feeling driving to the airport knowing you are going to see your personal solider. My brother just returned home for his mid-tour visit. It's been fun having him home, hearing stories and catching up with family & friends. After spending some time with him it makes me so thankful for our troops and families who sacrafice for our freedom! Thank you, Jordan for serving. We love you!

Recently, I purchased a few new clothing items for my "work wardrobe." I'm tired of wearing the same old pants with the same random tops. I tried to purchase new basics with a few fun items. I also re-organized my entire closet so this makes the mornings easier and a little brighter! Here's to brighter mornings...

Plum Crazy

Recently during my latest travels I was introduced to a new series of novels that I've found quite entertaining. Stephanie Plum is the main character in the series and is a bounty hunter - there's always adventure and great excitement following this character's storyline. For me, it's been a fabulous pass-time and I'm looking forward to reading more by Jane Evanovich poolside - hurry up summer-time!

This past weekend I set out to "beautify" my new living room. Decorating I believe is a natural talent. Some people embrace this gift and others do not. I am in the latter category thus I brought my mom along. We found a couple of great buys! Although the living room still needs a bit more work, it really is turning out great and finally feeling like home.
